The Pope vs The Ball

This was in our church notice sheet last week..

The Pope was cruising along the beach in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off-shore. A helpless man, wearing an England rugby shirt, was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25-foot long shark.

As the Pope watched in horror, a speedboat pulled up with three men wearing Australian rugby jerseys. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark's side while the other two reached out and pulled the hapless English fan from the water. Then, using long clubs, the three beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat.

Immediately the Pope shouted out and summoned them to him, "I give you my blessing for your brave actions. I heard that there was bitter hatred between Australian and English rugby fans, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not true."

As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buddies: "Who was that?"

"It was the Pope," one replied. "He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom."

"Well," the harpooner said, "he may have access to God and his wisdom, but he doesn't know anything about shark fishing. Is the bait holding up ok, or do we need to get another one?"

Wordle

My uncle reminded me of a rather nifty site called Wordle.  If you enter any text, it creates an image based on the frequency of each word.  It has various options for colours, etc.

Here is my dissertation, which recently passed (click on it to see it full-size)!

Average

Did you know most people have a higher than average number of feet?

Just what is average?

Say NO to 0870

A friend told me about what promises to be an extremely useful website.  Usually when ringing companies you have to use an 0845 or 0870 number, which are exempt from most calling plans, which means you have to pay for the call.  Companies use this to make extra money from their customers.

This website allows you to insert a company name, or a premium rate number, and gives you the corresponding geographical phone number, which means you can call the number from a mobile phone and have it included in your free minutes (even 0800 numbers are often charged from mobiles), or from a landline if you have inclusive minutes there.

Baby born with two faces

This is a rather unbelievable story about a baby girl in India who was born with a rare condition called 'craniofacial duplication'.  I assume that this story is real, as it wasn't released on April Fools' Day, and the article comes from two reputable sites:
